How these times are calculated

Prayer times follow the sun. Fajr starts when the sun is 18.2 degrees below the eastern horizon, Dhuhr just after solar noon, and Maghrib at sunset. Isha starts when the sun is 18.2 degrees below the western horizon. Asr begins when an object's shadow reaches its own length (Standard) or twice its length (Hanafi). The table shows the Standard rule. Followers of the Hanafi school pray Asr later; our Pakistan prayer times pages use the Hanafi rule.

The calculation uses Abu Dhabi's coordinates and is checked against an independent reference calculator. Published mosque timetables can differ by a minute or two because of rounding and local precaution margins; where your mosque differs, follow your mosque.
