Petrol Falls to Rs392.66 a Litre as Daily Price Reviews Continue
The Petroleum Division cut petrol by Rs2.71 to Rs392.66 a litre and high-speed diesel by 3 paisa to Rs396.82, effective October 14, 2026, under the daily pricing mechanism Islamabad adopted after the Iran-US war pushed fuel costs sharply higher this year.

Petrol dropped by Rs2.71 to Rs392.66 a litre and high-speed diesel fell 3 paisa to Rs396.82, under a Petroleum Division notification that took effect on October 14, 2026, Dawn reported.
The cut is the second straight daily decline for petrol after a run of increases pushed the price to within a few rupees of Rs400 earlier this month. We reported on October 9 that six consecutive daily rises had taken petrol to Rs398.96 a litre, overtaking diesel in price for the first time since the mechanism began. Diesel still costs more than petrol under the new rates, by Rs4.16 a litre.
Why prices move every day now
Since July 17, 2026, OGRA has set petrol and diesel prices daily rather than on the fortnightly cycle Pakistan used for years. Dawn reported that the cabinet and prime minister handed OGRA this responsibility after renewed hostilities between Iran and the United States, which began on February 28, 2026, sent international crude and product prices sharply higher. HSD rose from Rs281 a litre and petrol from Rs266 in the first week of March before both climbed further; petrol peaked at Rs458.41 and HSD at Rs520.35 on April 3, according to the same report.
What stays fixed regardless of the daily swings
Government levies do not move with the daily revisions. Pakistan continues to charge Rs114 a litre in taxes and duties on petrol and Rs100 a litre on diesel, Dawn reported, meaning roughly three-tenths of the pump price is tax even as the underlying cost swings from one day to the next. Our explainer on how Pakistan's fuel prices are set breaks down how the levy, the exchange rate and the international price feed into the daily number, and the live petrol price page tracks each day's revision.
What to watch
With prices now reviewed daily against a moving average of international benchmarks, the next revision depends on how crude markets react to the wider Middle East conflict, including the tanker and shipping disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz that have already moved Pakistani fuel and stock prices this month. A sustained fall in global prices would be the first test of whether the daily mechanism passes relief to consumers as quickly as it passed on past increases.
